Dog and cat living together: 4 advices to improve their life together

For a long time, dog and cat were declared enemies. Some people believed that where there was a dog, there could not be a cat and vice versa. If before they were not used to living together, today they live together and some are even inseparable. But pay attention! Animals do not always understand each other at first and the adaptation process requires time and patience from the tutor so that they learn to respect each other's presence. For those of you who have a puppy and a kitten and need help adapting them, we've separated eight advices to improve they life together. Check this out:

  1. Don't let the dog make the cat a toy

Some dogs are so excited with cats that they can be a bit aggressive. As cats are smaller, depending on the way they play, an accident can occur. It is important to supervise both of them when paying: “Living together is the best way to teach, naturally, that the other animal is not a toy. Afterwards, the dog will understand and learn from the cat the best way to have fun. If you don't feel able to make this adaptation of the dog to the cat, look for a dog trainer.

  1. Share the space

One part for the dog and the other part dedicated to the cat. At the beginning, to facilitate the adaptation, you can leave both of them apart so that they can smell Each other and get to know each other little by little.

An idea is to caress the dog and put the same hand you caressed your dog, on the cat s body, in order for him to feel the smell, then, both will getting familiar with this dynamic.

It is important to put your dog`s food at the place dedicated to the dog, and the cat`s food, in his place, dedicated to the cat.

If you are going out, do not leave both together, in order to avoid any aggressive behavior in your absence.

  1. Give the same treatment for both

It is essential to give the same attention and affection to all the animals in the house. Pets can sense when they are left out and can get very frustrated with it. They must understand that one is not better than the other and that both are loved equally. When petting the cat, the dog should not be left out. When you give the dog a special meal, give it to the cat as well.

  1. Cat versus Dog: the cat is the boss

Don't be afraid if your cat puts itself above your dog: it's in the nature of felines to feel like they own the house and furniture. Do you know when the cat rubs against furniture and objects? This behavior is to indicate that he is the boss. By establishing a relationship with another species, the cat imposes its limits. So, it is perfectly normal if your dog is submissive to the cat.
